You can kiss the Daylesford International Film Festival goodbye as the bulldozers take to the Rex – soon to be converted into an arcade with bowling alley and car park.

The stage has completely vanished, as have all the chairs and the floor.

What a tragedy! Now daylesford has lost all of its character!

It was a place of wonderful memories as a child 52 years ago-rolling jaffas down the floor!

Like the loss of the railway-daylesford can only go downhill now.

How sad

I always had grand plans in my mind of restoring the beautiful old stage and those Juliet windows, and the balcony, and showing theatre, music and films because there seems to be a distinct lack of venues in the area. Was always one of those ‘one day…’ dreams but unfortunately the Big Boys got in first… A bowling alley, awesome. Just what we need. :(

I used to think surely anything would be better than a scrappy two dollar shop but now I start to wonder….
